Mauro Bili Crestani: Dress for success

Lee Strasberg developed an acting style called the 'method'. He taught actors that they were an instrument of their craft. That they had to work on their body. Health wise, skill wise, mental wise. That their body, their mind, improving and working on their skill and their craft was essential. That their inner being was their living and they had to respect that.

If you want to be a winner and succeed, then you have to follow Strasberg's advise. You are the instrument of your craft. Whether you are a doctor or in sales or you are a plumber or a carpenter, your success depends on you. The more skill you have in your field, the better education you have. Being that your success depends on yourself, it's important to take care of your body and mind. You need to eat right, exercise and be happy. You can not be successful if you are depressed and sick.

Your image is essential. Your clients need to feel secure to invest in you and your company. It's hard for your clients to judge your skill. They judge you by what they see. If they see you in a fitted suit, with polished shoes and a tie that shows success. If you look successful, then your clients will see you as the one to make them successful.

A relative of mine once was negotiating a thirty million dollar deal. He was called to meet the client to close the deal. His wife took their nice car and left him an old looking car. He went with a old car to close a thirty million dollar deal. That deal did not close and to this day, he blames meeting the client with that old car as the cause of him losing thirty million dollars. Your success is tied to your image. Dress for success.

I want to close by quoting Matt Damon in a movie where he was running for the U.S. Senate. "this isn’t even my tie. This tie was selected for me by a group of specialists, in Tenafly New Jersey, who chose it over fifty six other ties we tested. In fact, our data suggests that I have to stick to either a tie that is red or a tie that is blue. A yellow tie made it look as if I was taking my situation lightly and I may in fact pull my pants down at any moment. A silver tie meant that I’d forgotten my roots. My shoes, you know shiny shoes we associate with a high priced lawyers and bankers. If you want to get a working mans vote you need to scuff up your shoes a little bit, but you can’t scuff ’em so much that you alienate the lawyers and the bankers, cause you need them to pay for the specialist back in Tenafly. So what is the proper scuffing amount? Do you know we actually paid a consultant seventy three hundred dollars…"

Mauro Libi Crestani: How to prevents mental overload?

A leading psychologist claims whistling or singing helps distract the mind from trying too hard and prevents mental overload. Wow! The Dwarfs were right!  Whistling while you work makes you do your job better . The seven dwarfs knew from positive attitude and they knew how to get things done and enjoy it. They also knew the secret to staying calm. Far from being down to 'just nerves' , choking up  occurs when the brain finds itself with too many pieces of information to process, resulting in 'paralysis by analysis', argues Dr Sian Beilock of the University of Chicago. The same holds true when presenting a vital sales pitch, making an important golf putt or doing an acting audition. So you do not want to choke up and lose that sale, that golf game or that acting job, then  maybe you need to  whistle while you work.     Not just whistling. When you’re humming, singing, or laughing, it’s also difficult to be stressed. It puts...
