Importance of economic and financial education

     


Por Mauro Libi.- Both the global economic crisis and the changes and transformations that operate everyday in various processes, instruments and financial markets, impose the need to establish a rigorous diffusion of the current economic and financial culture. We are facing a situation of high complexity that at least in its basic foundations should be understood by all society. Man can’t remain ignorant about what is happening around him in matters of economics and finance.

      In the markets there are a series of decisions and dynamics that affect the whole society, as a result, economic and financial education is very important. Given the current opacity in many of the decisions and processes adopted that affect all members of society, we should impose a culture of knowledge, information and explanation that makes easy an understanding of what is happening in the world of economics and finance. The citizens of the world have the right but also the obligation to understand the economic and financial concepts and operations that take place in the markets, but that is only possible through financial education. This economic education should contribute to decision making based on information.

     In addition, transparency is imposed over the information opacity in economic and financial matters, this will result in the values’ promotion, ethics and social responsibility in business.

     On the other hand, financial education should become part of the curriculum from the foundations of the educational system. It is necessary to educate the early age population on the subjects and the financial dynamics.

     Raising the levels of economic culture of citizens should be a fundamental objective of all societies. It will result in societies better equipped to deal with crises. Faced with the reality that affects the pocket of all citizens, education is the best strategy to deal with crises and to make easy that society as a whole contributes to solving it.
